Cooking tip! This is amazing!

So, we made mashed potatoes for dinner. And we heard about this little trick we just had to try! Did you know that placing a wooden spoon over a boiling pot keeps it from boiling over! The steam from the boiling water is absorbed by the wooden spoon...no over-boiling! Pretty sweet!

Ladies, Please...

Please let me know if you're reading this or if you would like to suggest something. I just started this page on a whim and although I don't have many people following me on here or on Facebook I still really enjoy doing this. So, give me a shout out & let me know what you'd like to see on Yes, Please or on  My Facebook. I do have some plans on where I am going with this :)

Saturday Afternoons

Usually Saturdays are days that our family uses to goof off and do as we please. The boys always play outside when it's nice or sometimes they join their dad for a video game day. I don't mind, but I usually limit their video game time to a few hours after lunch. So, as they are in the living room with their dad playing their games, I went into the kitchen and decided to make something.
Yesterday I went through all my beads and crafting supplies and I found some old junk jewelry and decided to recycle some broken pieces into something new. And, I must say I was pleased with what I made.
I played with the idea of making something abstract and flashy but decided to go with a more aged antique look.

I loved the way these looked together.

A close up of the charms.

Lovely :)

Nail Art <3

I have a special love for nail art, I have been experimenting with different designs for a while. I like some designs more than others, but that's what experiments are all about, finding what you like. I tried this design on my friend Nikki this afternoon...and while it wasn't necessarily a favorite...its still kinda cute. When we were looking at the finished design we decided that the white lines should have been orange or light/lime green. Here are some pictures. Remember, we're still amateurs :)

Valentine's Day

Valentine's day is right around the corner and it just so happens to be my favorite holiday. I'm looking to be inspired to make a piece of jewelry just right for a night out. I need a muse...
I have an enormous amount of beads and supplies, but I need something extra special. So, tonight I will be venturing into the vast pile of crafting supplies I have in my tote...(yes, a tote) I am hoping to find that one thing that speaks to me :)

Maybe I'll let you decide on what I use. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

BzzAgent!

So, at the end of December I signed up for BzzAgent. BzzAgent is a social marketing company. It's pretty amazing because you can test and keep certain products in exchange for a product review. You can share your reviews on your Facebook, Twitter or through word of mouth, and of course your blog. You fill out very simple, short surveys and based on your responses they will invite you to certain "campaigns". What that means is that they will send you a box of products for FREE and after you have had the chance to try the product you just tell people what you honestly thought of the product, the good, the bad, and the ugly. They don't want you to try to "sell" the product, they want your honest opinion, good or bad. It's a terrific site because no matter what you will score some freebies! Just make sure you keep your score up and are an active member! Not hard!
So, I was just invited to my first campaign to review the Glade Expressions® Collection, and I couldn't be more excited. So, when my box arrives I will be here to share my review with you!

There's a similar website to this called Influenster, which I am also a member of. Influenster is a bit more complicated and clumsy to view through. They have so many badges and surveys and it's hard to get a product to review because there are so many other members to compete with. I do love Influenster, but you have to have been a member for a while and know your way around the site very well to get a "VoxBox". A VoxBox is a box filled with products to review, and they have some pretty awesome things for you to review...that is if you can get a perfect score, be a VERY active member, and earn your badges.

So, it really all depends on how much time you have on your hands to spend on whichever website. BzzAgent and Influenster both have pretty much everything you can think of to review in exchange for freebies, but while BzzAgent may be easier to navigate and get a campaign, Influenster gives you a choice of what you choose to review.
Don't forget about our Facebook and Twitter pages!

DIY Cookbook (easy and kid-friendly)

So, over the years my boys (7 year old twins and a 5 year old) have taken an interest in what I do in the kitchen. They love to help me cook, and I love to let them if the recipe is easy enough. So, we decided to make a cookbook for all their favorite meals so they can have it when they grow up. It's simple and cheap, and they will love helping you make it and choosing which recipes they want to have in it!
Here's what you need:
  • Empty Folder OR Binder
  • Recipe Cards OR Index Cards
  • Glue OR tape
  • Construction Paper
  • Colored Pencils

We reused a sheet folder for our cookbook. I started by writing them a personal message for when they get older and I used that as the front page of the cookbook. We then decorated the front of the folder, we choose to put our names, and I had the boys put some stickers on it. We glued our recipe cards to the construction paper, then used old magazines to decorate the sides of the paper. We had a blast doing this, and it was simple and cheap!

(I apologize for the low quality photos, but the camera on my phone is not very good, and I also apologize for some of the pictures being sideways, I will try to fix that!)
Find us on FacebookPinterest and Twitter!

Woman's Day Magazine Giveaway

I absolutely LOVE Woman's Day magazine. I have been getting it for years now and it is packed full of recipes, weight management tips and coupons. Home cooks can create!

With food, there is ALWAYS something to create. You can take any recipe and make it your own with a personal twist. There are endless possibilities when it comes to cooking. For example, I am allergic to eggs (not as rare as you might think), and we all know that every cookie, cake and brownie recipe has eggs in it. Well, after MUCH  trial and error, I have found a way to still make recipes I love without eggs. Just use a little bit of apple sauce (among other things that work) :)
If you can imagine it, you can cook it, and you can do this on a budget. So, here's to you chefs, the unspoken hero's who have inspired me again and again!
Food is what brings families together, whether it is cooking with your children, teaching them a recipe, or eating around the table, food has, for many generations been what brings the whole family to the same room night after night. Don't get me wrong, we must be healthy about what we choose to cook and eat, but healthy does not mean it cannot taste delicious.
Tomorrow I will be writing about a DIY cookbook idea that I did with my kids this year. So, make sure you come back to see it!
